35mm & Digital Camera Housings
Housings can be made
for any type of still camera, including 35mm, medium format and digital
cameras. Manual and autofocus cameras produce the highest quality images in a
Photographic Support Systems® housing.
Most housings are made of cast acrylic, laminated with fiberglass and coated with a rubber coating that protects the housing and provides a superior grip when wet. The control glands are virtually maintenance-free, hardware is stainless steel or brass. Some housings use nylon gearing systems.

There are two basic types of still camera
housings; the Pistol Grip, with the handle and trigger on the bottom of the
housing and the ProSLR, with the handle and trigger on the side of the housing.
The Pistol Grip has an electric plug that plugs into the camera's winder or
motor drive and is fired by an electric switch. The ProSLR, which is a good
choice for autofocus systems, has completely manual operation and is very
dependable.

Housings can have focus, shutter speed, aperture, control dial
and shutter release controls. Telephoto and zoom lenses can be used with
autofocus cameras. Focus and zoom controls use nylon gearing systems. Housings
can have flash, remote or accessory ports.

Different
front plates can be used with different focal length lenses. Zoom, telephoto
and fisheye front plates are available for nearly all housings. Zoom lenses use
nylon gearing systems that allow full operation of the lens zoom range. Long
zoom lenses have rubber supports in the front plate to relieve stress on the
camera's lens mount. Fisheye ports use the best quality domes for sharp images
without distortion.

Remote camera
housings offer an unusual POV(point of view) perspective. Small, light and
durable, these housings are usually used with a fisheye lens. Housings and
mounting systems offer protection for the camera. The camera is usually fired
by remote(wire) or radio(RC) control. These versatile remote housings, as well
as other still camera housings, protect the camera from impact, shock, snow and
dust, as well as water.
